Common adult symptoms of gluten allergy include iron deficiency anaemia which does not improve with iron supplementation, difficulty gaining weight, constipation, chronic fatigue, joint pain, and two specific rashes: rosacea and dermatitis herpetiformis. There are blood tests which strongly support the diagnosis, but the "gold standard" is a small bowel biopsy, which is obtained while a doctor passes a tube through the stomach into the duodenum. Some people experience a strong emotional change caused by gluten allergy, either as anger and irritation, or depression. However, if you think you have gluten allergy, a month on a gluten free diet will usually tell you. If you have it, you will feel better.
